Our approach
Humanitarian claims are decided on credibility and corroboration. We spend the time it takes to build a declaration that is precise, consistent and supported by country-conditions evidence, expert reports and medical or psychological documentation where it strengthens the record.
We also handle these cases with an awareness of what recounting them costs. Interviews are prepared at a pace that the client sets, and we prepare for cross-examination so the hearing is not the first time a hard question is asked.
Questions we are asked
Is there a deadline to apply for asylum?
Generally you must apply within one year of your last arrival in the United States. Exceptions exist for changed circumstances and extraordinary circumstances, but they must be established affirmatively. Do not assume the deadline has passed without an assessment.
Can I work while my asylum case is pending?
Employment authorisation is available after a statutory waiting period following a properly filed application, subject to current regulations. Delays caused by the applicant can stop that clock, which is one reason procedural discipline matters.
Do I need my abuser's cooperation for a VAWA petition?
No. VAWA self-petitions are filed confidentially and do not require the abuser's knowledge, consent or participation.
